Sculptural boxes inspired by architecture

Susan Jane Dunford creates sculptural boxes and jewellery that explore the human relationship with architecture and the ideas of containment/contained space that surround this. Her research explores the history of human beings creating containers, for both objects and ideas, on a multitude of scales: from the smallest locket to the grandest cathedral. Her imagery is taken from the rich textures and diverse forms of old buildings; flaking paint, weathered masonry, moss and lichens, extensions and alterations. Her designs combine silhouettes, fabricated forms and surface textures to create tactile artefacts that aim to capture a sense of playful imagination and invoke your curiosity.
