Walking Home: A Psychogeographic Study of Streatham

June 2019

Exhibited at Crypt Gallery, Euston.

Suzy Dunford-Gent’s practice examines the ways in which architecture and textiles represent, reflect and record the human relationship to containment, nature and history. The ‘Walking Home’ project started with a walk. Inspired partially by the Situationist idea of Psychogeography and equipped with an innate human shelter-making instinct, the aim of the walk was to simply to connect with the materiality of the immediate environment surrounding the artist’s temporary home, following residential displacement in early 2019. Drawing on existing knowledge of plants and craft processes, followed by a period of research in Lambeth’s public libraries, the project explores ideas of common land and knowledge sharing.
